“Turning the Curve on Opioid Abuse in Bernalillo County”
Thursday, September 19, 2013
UNM Rotunda - 801 University Blvd. SE - Albuquerque, NM

On September 19, 2013, at the request of Bernalillo County Commissioner Maggie Hart Stebbins, the Health Council convened the first of four summits on opioid abuse in Bernalillo County to take place over the next two years. The meeting was intended to discuss recommendations for improving systems and barriers to implementation of those recommendations in reducing opioid abuse and overdose death rates in Bernalillo County. Four panels comprised of subject area experts were convened to present on the four pillars of opioid abuse reduction: prevention, harm reduction, law enforcement, and treatment. Participants were then provided with the opportunity to ask questions of the panelists. During the next several months, panelists, participants, and other community leaders will meet regularly, working together to address each of these four pillars and prepare to meet for a follow-up accountability summit in mid-2014.
